Superb Tennis Mini Comps starting from 4 January - Registrations OPEN

We have a new club name …. and it's Superb!

To see our new brand come to life, watch this two minute video

For some years now, our club members have recognised the need for a modern business name and logo for our tennis club. The club’s official name, Hornsby Kuring-gai District Tennis Association will be retained, but adding a new business name will allow us to modernise our look, help us stand out from our competitors, and uniquely identify our club to attract new members and visitors. We started the process by forming a rebranding subcommittee made up of people with business, advertising and communications experience. Our first task was to survey our members to seek their ideas for a new business name that is:

•        Original

•        Memorable

•        Succinct

•        Relevant

•        Meaningful to players

•        Easy to find via internet search

•        Available on the Australian Business Register

We received many great ideas and concepts from the survey and informal discussions with players. From these we created our shortlist. We knew we needed a unique name, something unforgettable that would evoke emotion. We also felt very strongly that our beautiful bushland settings, at both our Mills Park and Berowra centres, are one of our most attractive features. We wanted to reflect our environment in our new brand

Why ‘Superb’ Tennis?

As we started to look to our environment for ideas, a few names crossed our minds – Bushland Tennis, Parkland Tennis and Ku-ring-gai Tennis were just a few. But none of them created the emotive hit we needed, and they didn’t sound interesting or ‘’sticky’’ enough. Then the most creative member of our team had a light bulb moment and remembered the superb blue fairywrens that frequent our Mills Park centre. They flit from shrub to shrub looking for food and entertaining us with their antics and active natures. And so Superb Tennis was born! It’s unique, memorable and sets us apart from our competitors. It incorporates a beautiful part of our natural environment and is also a great description of the game we all love to play!

Our icon

Right from the start we rejected the notion of a tennis related icon – no racquets or balls. It might seem strange that we would avoid these, but with ‘tennis’ in our new name using a traditional tennis icon would be predictable and a waste of an opportunity to use a unique and memorable icon. Our wren evokes emotion. It’s active, interesting and friendly and it’s our superb wren that creates our unique brand identity.

Our tagline – Fun Fitness Friendship

With our new name Superb Tennis, we need to ensure that our stakeholders don’t mistake our club as an elite venue only for ‘superb’ players or players looking to play only a ‘superb’ level of tennis. Our club is for everyone and players of all standards and ages are welcome at our centres. So, we asked ourselves a basic question: “What is it that most people want out of tennis?” We came up with these three answers:

•        Most people just want to have some fun!

•        The fitness opportunity that tennis provides is important to a lot of players.

•        Tennis is a great social activity, and many people play tennis to make and strengthen friendships.

Fun Fitness Friendship reveals who we are as a club and makes a strong statement on the tennis experience we strive to offer everyone who plays at our centres. Thankfully, it also has a nice alliterative flow to it! So, after many months of researching, collaborating, head scratching and sleepless nights, we’ve come to the end of the process. We’re very happy with the outcome and we welcome you and invite you to experience Superb Tennis every time you visit.

Mills Park NSW Safety Plan August 2021

Berowra NSW Safety Plan August 2021

We have BIG news! HKDTA wins $1m grant to upgrade our facilities!

HKDTA has been awarded a $1m grant to upgrade and improve our facilities at Berowra Tennis Centre. The grant has been awarded as part of the NSW Government’s Greater Cities Sports Facilities Fund and the ATP Cup Tennis Legacy Fund.

This grant is the largest grant HKDTA has ever been awarded in its nearly one-hundred-year history and has been made possible largely by the hard work of HKDTA’s Treasurer, Jonathan Gray. An engineer by trade, Jonathan had a vision that would take Berowra Tennis Centre to a new level of sporting facility not before seen in Berowra.

The upgrade will include new accessible toilets, showers and changerooms and much needed LED court lighting and court resurfacing. But not content with a standard upgrade, Jonathan’s vision includes making Berowra Tennis Centre a leader in renewable energy integration and incorporates water capture and re-use, capture and storage of solar power for court lighting and an electric vehicle charging station!

Work is expected to start later this year and we will be keeping you up to date along the way. We hope this project leads the way for other sports clubs like HKDTA to work with government and their peak bodies for the improvement of facilities that benefit both their members, the local community and the environment.
